Published:

A former Member of Parliament from Zimbabwe was arrested in Pretoria after explosives were allegedly found in his car. The 53-year-old suspect, along with a 78-year-old accomplice, was apprehended following a tip-off about suspicious individuals traveling in a Ford Fiesta in central Pretoria.

Upon inspection, the police discovered 26 blasting cartridges and 15 capped fuse connectors in the vehicle, typically associated with illegal explosives usage. The intended purpose of the explosives was not disclosed in the police statement.

Both suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Monday, November 10, 2025. In a related incident, a 48-year-old Zimbabwean national named Edward Chikukwa was recently convicted and sentenced to 15 years in prison for unlawful possession of explosives.

Chikukwa was apprehended earlier this year at the Beitbridge port of entry weighbridge with detonating fuse explosives and blasting cartridges valued at over R600,000. The Hawks provincial spokesperson in Limpopo, Warrant Officer Lethunya Mmuroa, highlighted the incident and emphasized the serious organized crime investigation conducted by the authorities.
