Law enforcement authorities have verified that one of the primary suspects in the Olorato Mongale murder case was shot and killed in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). The man, whose identity remains undisclosed, was gunned down early on Friday morning.

According to Police Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the individual was discovered hiding in an apartment in Amanzimtoti. He was engaged in a shootout with the police, resulting in fatal injuries. The suspect was allegedly involved in the killing of Olerato Mongale, whose body was discovered dumped at the side of the road in Lombardy, Johannesburg, Gauteng province.

The investigation is ongoing, with KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi currently present at the crime scene. Authorities are actively pursuing two other suspects connected to Mongale’s murder.

In a recent development, the parents of one suspect associated with Mongale’s death were apprehended for informing their son about the police search. The father, who owns the VW Polo linked to the case, and the mother, who alerted their son about the police presence at their home, aided in his escape.

Police had previously arrested Bongani Mthimkhulu and Phila Makhanya on charges of kidnapping and robbery in a separate case. Bongani Mthimkhulu, a friend of one of the main suspects, is also wanted in connection with Mongale’s murder.

Mongale was last seen on a date with her alleged killer, who picked her up in a white VW Polo with counterfeit plates. Her body was later discovered in Lombardy West with the assistance of the community and the police.
