The South African Police Service (SAPS) has located the VW Polo linked to the killing of Olerato Mongale, containing blood traces, resulting in the arrest of the vehicle’s owner.

SAPS has mobilized a specialized team with advanced intelligence capabilities to solve the mystery surrounding Olerato Mongale’s tragic death. The police initiated their inquiry at a lodge in Kew, Johannesburg, where two suspects had reserved a room. Following further investigations, they proceeded to the residence of one of the suspects in KwaMashu, Durban.

Subsequent to the investigation, the suspect’s VW Polo was discovered at an auto body workshop, revealing the presence of blood inside the vehicle. An elderly man suspected to be the car’s owner has been apprehended, while authorities continue their search for two individuals believed to be directly involved in Olerato’s murder. The exact cause of death remains undisclosed, although speculation suggests Olerato may have been investigating a high-profile case during her tenure as a journalist, including that of Karabo Mokoena, a young woman from Soweto who was tragically killed by her boyfriend.

The National Commissioner of SAPS, General Fannie Masemola, has expressed gratitude to the team involved in the investigation, which includes the SAPS Gauteng Provincial Investigation Unit (PIU), DPCI KZN Tracking Team, Durban Metro Police K-9 unit, and private security for supporting the SAPS anti-kidnapping task force.

The suspects are strongly advised to surrender themselves at the nearest police station.
