The musician faces a serious charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm stemming from an event in London last year. He is expected to remain detained until June 13th.
R&B artist Chris Brown was remanded into custody until June 13 by a Manchester court on Friday, following the charge.
Police in the U.K. took the 36-year-old into custody in Manchester on Thursday, linked to an alleged attack at a location in London’s Hanover Square on February 19, 2023, as confirmed by the Metropolitan Police.
Prosecutors released a statement Thursday, offering no additional specifics. Due to legal protocols in the U.K., media outlets are restricted from publishing information that might influence a potential jury during the legal proceedings.
The judge in Manchester then forwarded the case to a London court, scheduling the subsequent session for June 13. Brown was in England prior to a concert tour slated to kick off on June 8 in Amsterdam, though his confinement is anticipated to impact those performances.
According to the BBC, Brown appeared in court dressed in black trousers and a basic tee, verifying his identity as Christopher Maurice Brown and providing his birthdate.
Neither a legal representative nor the talent agency representing Brown provided an immediate response to inquiries on Thursday.
Brown’s music has resulted in 17 placements on the Billboard Top 10 charts, primarily between 2005 and 2015.
